Clean Energy to Supply LNG Fuel
for New Hostler Fleet at BNSF Railway Yard
BNSF Railway Company has deployed a fleet of 10 LNG-powered hostler trucks to move cargo containers at the Hobart Yard, BNSF’s largest Los Angeles intermodal facility.
Designed to transport containers from the Hobart facility to trackside loading areas, the new LNG hostlers are projected to reduce harmful nitrous oxide and particulate matter emissions by 95 percent, compared to off-road diesel tractors.
Parsec, Inc. — responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at Hobart Yard – has selected Clean Energy to provide LNG fuel for the new hostler trucks. “This is the first step toward phasing out the diesel hostlers and switching to all-natural-gas yard tractors,” said Parsec Vice President David Budig.
BNSF purchased the new natural gas hostlers as part of a pilot program funded by a
grant from the California Air Resources Board. The goal is to test the vehicles for future use at select Los Angeles area BNSF intermodal facilities, including its proposed portside Southern California International Gateway site.
The program reflects the broad move by the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to substantially reduce diesel emissions from all ports-related sources within five years.
Clean Energy is the leading provider of vehicular natural gas (CNG and LNG) and related services in North America. It has a broad customer base in the refuse, transit, shuttle, taxi, trucking, airport and municipal fleet markets with more than 13,000 natural gas vehicles fueling at strategic locations across the United States and Canada. |
