Clean Energy Partners with National Grid to Bring CNG Fueling to Upstate N.Y.
Clean Energy continues to partner with National Grid to bring compressed natural gas fueling to upstate New York. Clean Energy currently operates and maintains 14 CNG stations for National Grid, supporting the company’s fleet of approximately 450 natural gas vehicles. The latest of those stations was officially launched at a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by elected officials, partners and key stakeholders. The state-of-the-art CNG fueling station, located in Cicero, a suburb of Syracuse, N.Y., serves National Grid’s growing natural gas fleet. As part of the project, National Grid added 28 new CNG vehicles to its upstate New York fleet to help reduce harmful tailpipe emissions. Being open to the general public, the station will offer area motorists access to a fuel that is not only less harmful than gasoline but also less costly—on the day of the official opening, the CNG equivalent of a gallon of gasoline cost about $2.50.

Metro Taxi of West Haven Opens Clean Energy Station, Deploys MV1 Taxi
Connecticut’s largest, full-service taxicab company, Metro Taxi, recently opened a new compressed natural gas fueling station at its West Haven headquarters. Built by Clean Energy, the new station is the city’s first public access CNG station and the first of three to be opened in the state by Clean Energy, as part of a statewide alternative fuel initiative. By year’s end, Metro Taxi will deploy 110 new CNG taxis in an effort to decrease its dependence on foreign oil, reduce pollution, and improve the environment. In addition to deploying CNG-fueled Ford Transit Connects and Honda Civics, Metro Taxi will launch into service a fleet of wheelchair-friendly, ADA compliant, low emission CNG “MV-1” taxis. “The fuel cost savings [of CNG fuel] enabled us to purchase the new MV-1 Wheelchair Accessible Taxi. This business decision is a win/win for everyone,” explained Bill Scalzi, president and CEO of Metro Taxi.

Clean Energy to Build CNG Station for Peoria Disposal
Peoria Disposal Co. (PDC), the Illinois city’s residential waste and recycling hauler, is teaming with Clean Energy to build a compressed natural gas commercial fueling station in Peoria. The station will serve as the headquarters for 12 new CNG-powered trucks to be deployed by PDC and also will be open to Peoria commercial businesses. “We are excited about this initiative, which will bring cleaner-burning alternative fuel to our area,” said Matt Coulter, Peoria Disposal vice president. “PDC is increasingly aware of the global need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve overall air quality. Our investment in CNG confirms our commitment to exceed stringent standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency and, ultimately, reward the Peoria community with cleaner fuel and cleaner air.”
